I HAVE BEEN A PAINTER ALL MY LIFE. AS A CHILD I FELT A SPECIAL, QUIET,
PRIVATE AND CENTERED PLACE IN MYSELF WHEN I PAINTED. I HAVE COME
TO UNDERSTAND THAT MAKING ART IS A FLUID PROCESS, THAT IT IS A
CONSTANT DISCOVERY, AND THAT IT REQUIRES BOTH INTERNAL AND
EXTERNAL WORK, AND THAT IT IS ALWAYS BEING REFINED. I VERY MUCH
ENJOY THIS PROCESS AS WELL AS SHARING MY WORK WITH OTHERS. IN
1987 I BEGAN A SERIES OF PAINTINGS THAT FIRST SPIRITUALLY
CONNECTED ME WITH MYSELF AND THE EARTH AND THEN SPIRITUALLY
CONNECTED MY WORK WITH OTHERS.
I USE MANY DIFFERENT MATERIALS TO CREATE PHYSICAL DEPTH AS WELL
AS AN EMOTIONAL DEPTH THAT TOUCHES THE HEART. I USE HUMAN,
ANIMALS AND LANDSCAPE FORMS TO TOUCH AND HEAL FEELINGS. I
WORK WITH WATERCOLOR, COLORED PENCIL, OIL PASTEL AND CERAMIC
STUCCO ON PAPER AND CANVAS. I CREATE COLLAGE PIECES THAT I
APPLY TO THE CANVAS AND ALLOW THESE PIECES TO COME OFF THE
CANVAS IN MANY DIRECTIONS, CREATING A REAL SENSE OF MOVEMENT.
NOTES ON THE COLLECTIONS
I am offering three collections of my work in reproductions, Earthscapes, On Common Ground and Legendary Women:
EARTHSCAPES
The land is filled with the myths of the ancient people and their kindred
animal spirits. They live between the earth and the sky and the water.
They listen to the voice of the wind and they are illuminated by the sun
and the moon. The grandmothers say the eagles are spirit people who live
in a special home in the sky, they say in winter and spring the eagles come
to earth through a hole in the sky to dance, to sing to build their nests, to
lay their eggs, to hatch their young and to leave their dreams among the
cliffs of the mountains and high mesas and the sands in all directions.
These mixed media paintings celebrate the six directions, North, South,
East and West, Above and Below and echo the myths from many cultures
by my use of pattern and color.
ON COMMON GROUND
Stories fall from the sky, fables bubble up from beneath the water, take
root in all who hear them and connect us to the past and our futures. My
mixed media paintings celebrate a multicultural collection of women of
power, wisdom and beauty. From a thousand threads we weave one
cloth, out of many stories an endless stream of experiences unites us all.
LEGENDARY WOMEN
These women have percolated in our consciousness from our childhood through our adulthood. They infuse our dreams and have helped form the women we have become. They serve as signposts to our future.
In MERMAID'S COMPANION the entities from beneath the sea are symbols of the depth of our subconscious life. She is always involved in the depth of her life.
This CINDERELLA suggests that there are more than one pair of shoes in our lives that fit. She is always in the process of becoming.
RED RIDING HOOD has a wolf at her side that represents her familiar, her constant companion during her travels. She is always a traveler and has the constant royalty of this wolf.
ALICE, the adventurer, no obstacle is too great for her....down a rabbit hole....sure. Time has no meaning, nothing phases her. She is always in touch with her childhood.
